"Hello Dr. Toman --

I just wanted to let you know that on Monday I had a follow-up appointment with Kofi and he is now out of congestive heart failure!

I know he has only been on rapamycin for around 2 months now, but this definitely gives me some hope. I just wanted to thank you for providing this sense of hope to me and so many others.

Once again, thank you so much for being an outlet of hope during this tough time. We truly appreciate all your help."

RAPAMYCIN FOR CATS IS A PRESCRIPTION DRUG.  We would love to send it your way, but only  with your local veterinarian's prescription, or after  a Concierge Consult with Dr. Kevin.

Here are the benefits of Rapamycin for Your Cat:

  • Rapamycin is known as one of the best drugs to avoid hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in cats. In fact, it is the ONLY drug proven to reduce the progression of fatal Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy in cats -- the Trivium study
  • Rapamycin has been proven in other species to benefit Chronic Kidney Disease patients.  Anyone who has had an older cat understands the significance of this for our loved cats, and there are active studies of rapamycin and cat kidney disease going on at Ohio State, Florida, and Texas veterinary schools.
  • Rapamycin for cats has also been shown to fight two common forms of cancer in cats -- squamous cell carcinoma and mammary cancer.
  • Rapamycin has shown promise in the treatment of Feline Stomatitis, an excruciatingly painful disease of cats that can sometimes require the extraction of EVERY tooth in a cat's body.
  • In every mammal species studied to date, rapamycin has been proven to safely extend life.  There's no reason to think it won't do the same for our cats.

ONE THING YOU SHOULD KNOW:  Rapamycin is degraded by stomach acidity, and so the pills or solution that you give your pet to protect the rapamycin against that acidity.   MOST COMPOUNDING PHARMACIES DON'T KNOW THAT.  We use ONLY acid-resistant forms of rapamycin, but if you are getting rapamycin somewhere else you run the risk of wasting your money.

We have two different rapamycin products for cats:  A LIQUID ORAL SUSPENSION  and TABLETS.

  • IN BOTH CASES, THE RECOMMENDED RAPAMYCIN DOSAGE FOR CATS BY THE TRIVIUM STUDY IS 0.3 MG/KG GIVEN ONCE WEEKLY.

THE LIQUID ORAL SUSPENSION:

  • It is a 15 ml bottle of 2 mg/ml concentration, or 30 mg in total, which will provide approximately a THREE MONTH SUPPLY for the average cat.

  • The suspension is oil-based to minimize degradation by stomach acidity.

  • Because every bottle is formulated just for your kitty, it will take 10-14 days to receive once ordered.

  • The dosing syringes are marked to the correct dose for you.

  • I also include two Churu treats at no charge, which many folks find they can hide a liquid medicine in and not have to worry about syringe administration

THE TABLETS are coated to prevent degradation by stomach acidity.  These tablets are typically used in human medicine, and so are manufactured with strict quality control.  These tablets are very small -- the 0.5 mg size is about half the size of a baby aspirin, the 1.0 mg size is about 3/4 the size of a baby aspirin, and the 2 mg size is just larger than a baby aspirin.  Each bottle of tablets contains a THREE MONTH SUPPLY.  THESE TABLETS CANNOT BE CRUSHED OR SPLIT.

Our rapamycin tablets are available in three sizes:

  •  0.5 mg for 4 lb cats

  • 1.0 mg for 7 lb cats

  • 2.0 mg for 14 lb cats

What is rapamycin for cats?

Rapamycin is a drug meant to prolong the life of your pet, and it provides several health benefits we’ll get into soon. However, since rapamycin is kind of a new kid on the block, we first want to share what you should know about rapamycin:

  • Rapamycin is a medicine to make cats live longer and not a supplement. It can only be obtained with a prescription from your vet OR after a consultation with me!
  • Rapamycin is currently an off-label drug, but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t trusted in the veterinary community.
  • Our rapamycin is 99.946% pure, and you can see those test results here.  Beware of purchasing rapamycin from overseas, as you don’t know the concentration or the purity. Other groups have found both trace lead and trace benzene in rapamycin sourced from overseas, and this kind of negates the benefit of a longevity drug, yes?

If you want a really in-depth look at what rapamycin is, learn more here.

Common problems that rapamycin addresses in cats

Rapamycin can be used for the following health issues in cats:

  • The big news is that the recent Trivium study showed that rapamycin can stop the progression of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) in cats. Up until rapamycin, there has never been an effective way to treat this fatal heart disease in cats.
  • Rapamycin has been proven to help slow the progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in other mammals, including humans. There are clinical trials for rapamycin and CKD in cats going on at Ohio State, Florida, and Texas veterinary schools
  • Rapamycin has been proven beneficial in cat mammary cancer and squamous cell carcinomas of the skin.
  • Rapamycin has been shown to be a safe way of increasing lifespan in every mammalian species studied to date.

FAQs about rapamycin for cats

The Trivium study showed that rapamycin is very safe for use in cats, with no more side effects seen in the cats treated with rapamycin than the cats treated with a placebo.

The new treatment for HCM in cats is rapamycin, and we are currently the only online source for prescription veterinary rapamycin. Rapamycin is the only drug ever shown to prevent the progression of fatal HCM in cats, which is very exciting. The Trivium study showed that rapamycin is both effective and safe in treating hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in cats.

Along with rapamycin, the four best ways to help your cat live longer are…

  • Yearly anesthetic dentals with x-rays of every tooth to prevent periodontal disease, which has been shown to reduce lifespan by up to 15%
  • Keeping them at a healthy weight to avoid diabetes
  • Doing what you can to prevent kidney disease with the dentals above, check your cat’s blood pressure, and do an annual urinalysis on them
  • Avoid vaccines unless your cat is at risk for the disease

Although there are no longevity biomarkers currently known in any species, including humans, our goals in treating your cat with rapamycin are to stop the progression of fatal hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, to maintain their comfort, and to minimize the risks of both cancer and CKD.

The cons of rapamycin are simply the need for weekly oral administration and its cost. Rapamycin has been shown to be a very safe drug in cats, dogs, and other mammals.

Rapamycin is a prescription drug which means that you cannot buy Rapamycin online without consulting a certified veterinarian. I recommend either obtaining a prescription from your local veterinarian/cardiologist or scheduling a concierge consult with Dr. Kevin before ordering the rapamycin for your cat.

Absolutely. If you’re curious to learn more about the medical rationale behind how rapamycin for cats works and whether it’s the right choice for your cat or anything else about your pet’s health, then you may contact me directly at ktomandvm@gmail.com. Simple questions are easy, and we can set up a consult if things get more complex.

6 Months in and Her Heart Stabilized

It’s been a journey that we’re still taking. After a couple of months of starting Rapamycin my original cat cardiologist told me to stop giving the medicine to her. He didn’t believe in the study, said it was a waste of time and her heart continued to thicken. It had only been 2.5 months!!!. His dreadful bedside manner had me search for a new cardiologist and make me more determined to not give up! Around that time I received some encouraging words from other HCM cat moms who have their kitties on the medicine, saying it took 6+ month to see a change. Another 4 months went by and it was time for the next echocardiogram (with a different cardiologist). The outcome was welcomed news. My sphynx baby’s echo showed her heart stabilized. Will it remain that way? All fingers are crossed and I’ll find out in April. Until then I won’t stop giving her the weekly dose of Rapamycin.

As a sphynx owner and breeder Rapamycin is Amazing

I have known about rapamycin many many years before I ever had a cat with age related HCM. I was aware of the rapacat trials and what they meant for sphynx especially those who were afflicted by HCM at such a young age- although I have not had that in my cattery, I do have an adopted boy who now at 12 showing signs so we scanned him and he hasHCM I have a lot of hope that it will be just as amazing as the trials
and that he will do fantastic! very grateful that I did have this knowledge and I knew where to come. this community loves and appreciates Dr Kevin’s work with rapamycin as many doctors are not familiar with it and it’s not too easy to source. he has helped us tremendously have access so gentleman is just starting and I have no doubt that it will be just as amazing as the research articles

Echo results

Ezekial had is 2nd echo since starting rapamycin (has an echo every 3-4mos). His first echo showed no progression (1st echo that didn't get worse since he was 1st diagnosed at 1 year of age) and now his 2nd echo show thinning of the myocardium. He is tolerating rapamycin without any adverse side effects and has had NO ER visits/ER meds for the last 4 mos. Thank you!
